Our History

With beginnings that date back to the 1870s, Mount Tabor Baptist Church (MTBC) was formally chartered in February 1882 and its first building constructed at that time across the road from our present site. That original building was used for almost fifty years and was replaced in 1928 by a facility that has been repurposed and is still in active use. Today, our campus consists of buildings and additions that house an auditorium, classrooms, fellowship hall with kitchen, an activities area/gym and missionary housing.

In 1950, MTBC affiliated with the General Association of Regular Baptist Churches (GARBC), a national partnership of churches who share the same doctrinal beliefs. Our church remains an independent Baptist church while enjoying the fellowship, ministry resources and mutual support of hundreds of other like-minded conservative Baptist churches around the country.

Throughout its history, MTBC has been committed to an active missionary presence around the world. In addition to partnering with missionaries and mission agencies, men and women also have been commissioned from our own church and even now serve in both domestic and international missions. Whether as the sending church or a supporting church, we have partnered with hundreds of missionaries around the world for many decades.

Through almost a century and a half of ministry, from log buildings to Power Point, from telegraph lines to emails – Mount Tabor Baptist Church has stood the test of time. The congregation today is as faithful to the truth of the Word of God now as the original members were in the 1880s. The Bible remains the book we teach and Jesus Christ the One whom we proclaim and worship.
